I remember when I was in Grade 10, I was once selected to anchor a debating competition. I was very well prepared with my lines and quotes and practiced the same for many days. Yet, on the day of the final show as soon as I stepped on the stage and saw an auditorium full of audience, I became nervous. I forgot my initial lines and went blank for a few minutes till my co-anchor nudged me and took over the initial anchoring part. I did come back to senses and pulled off the show later. But that day made me realize that standing on the stage is no easy feat. It requires confidence, conviction and immense self-belief. It requires one to be calm, composed and have a good presence of mind, which I at the age of 15 couldn’t really display. Now would you believe me if I say that young kids of this generation, may be as young as 3-4 year old, can display such immense self-belief and can take on the stage without any fright or inhibitions? Well if you wouldn’t, you should really see a glimpse of the 21st Runway Showcase of Junior’s Fashion Week. I witnessed the event held in Mumbai and was utterly awe-ed by these young kids who were a powerhouse of talent and confidence.
The afternoon of 9th September ’18 was an eventful one for me. I spent the day at The Westin Mumbai attending the Junior’s Fashion Week AW 18. It was a well-organized event that saw young bright kids performing a fashion show and walking on the ramp with grace and elan. They wore amazing outfits and showcased the Autumn Winter Collection of some of the well-known brands. It was incredible to see them walking on the stage as if they owned it, without any fear or signs of nervousness.
About Junior’s Fashion Week
Junior’s Fashion Week is a children’s fashion runway event that is held in multiple cities every year. It is an edutainment platform for kids aging 4-14 years which provides them an overall grooming experience along with an opportunity to walk the ramp and discover the best version of themselves. The event involves a workshop training for kids helmed by industry experts along with the main fashion show that showcases seasonal collections of globally renowned brands. This year the main participating brands were U. S. Polo Assn. Kids, Cherry Crumble California, Flying Machine Boys, and The Children’s Place.
My Experience
I was invited to attend the afternoon show and I reached the venue a little early. That gave me a chance to see the backstage preparation and watch the kids as they were getting ready for the final show. They seemed excited, elated and eager to hit the stage. Their make-up and hairdo was done by the professional team from Lakme and they seemed to be enjoying it all.
Post the show I also got a chance to interact with a few parents whose kids performed that day. It was good to know that parents viewed this event as a confidence-building exercise and an opportunity to give their kids a real stage-exposure. Some became emotional telling that they never imagined their child performing in front of such a large audience and this is a dream-come-true for them. Some even mentioned they felt proud seeing their kids perform with so much poise and confidence and they would be happy if their child would want to pursue a career in the fashion industry.
Attending this event, changed my overall perspective of kids’ fashion show and I learnt that it is beyond just a display of fashion and style. It is a platform where each kid gets a chance to shine like a star and give his/her best performance. I am sure by the end of the entire event, these kids would not have just made some new friendships but also lifetime memories for themselves and their parents.
