Why The Smartest Giant In Town By Julia Donaldson Is Our All-Time Favourite Book

My growing twins love to read books by Julia Donaldson. She is a top selling author of children’s books with over 65 million books sold worldwide. Her books have been translated into over 72 languages. Her one book that my children love reading repeatedly is The Smartest Giant In Town.

The Smartest Giant In Town

The Smartest Giant in Town is a funny and a warm-hearted tale about a character George, who wished he wasn’t the scruffiest giant in town. So when he sees a new shop selling giant-sized clothes, he decides it’s time for a new look. He buys smart trousers, smart shirts, stripy ties, shiny shoes, etc and believes he is the smartest giant in town until he bumps into some animals who desperately need his help and his clothes. The giant gives away his clothes and accessories little by little in order to help the animals in need.

The book teaches children about empathy, kindness and generosity through its engaging storyline and illustrations.

Children love listening and even joining in with the rhyming text in the story . The book is full of descriptive vocabulary that aides kids in learning new words.

The illustrations of the book are bright, attractive and are useful to teach kids various concepts.

The book also gives a beautiful description of the character George and his feelings through which one can teach children about various emotions and also the virtue of kindness, sharing, etc. Kids can relate this books to the real life situations and learn how to help and care for their friends around.

Reading books together can be a great interactive exercise. They can develop and nourish kids’ imaginations and expand their world of creativity and knowledge. However, the type of books we read to children contribute to the depth of their learning. And that’s one reason this book by Julia Donaldson’s is a must read for children.
