Magnum Opus (noun) : ‘a work of art, music, or literature that is regarded as the most important or best work that an artist, composer, or writer has produced. ‘
As a writer, I always dream to write a Magnum Opus. While my every attempt at writing takes me closer to that dream, there are days when I struggle with a writer’s block. My mind, which is otherwise full of ideas, goes blank. I toil to gather my thoughts and give them a shape. I strive with words that sound meaningful and coherent. Such days, often turn into a period of reflection, making me think about my muse and inspiration. Does it happen with you too?
This poetic piece depicts the struggle every writer may face in his/her attempt to achieve the dream of writing a Magnum Opus.

Magnum Opus
I endeavour to scribble down something
I try and try and try hard
But my mind flusters, words falter
My every attempt fades in dark.
I dream to write a ‘magnum opus’
Is it unrealistic or possible?
My heart says: ‘Come’on it’s not so difficult
All you need is to sit and decipher
the different streams of thoughts
flowing and flooding in your brain.’
But my mind says: ‘You can’t beat my, huh!
It’s all futile and vain.’
I ponder then, ‘Who’s my muse?’
Is it my work, city or cosmopolis?
Is it my love, my family, my home?
Is it my friends, foes, accomplice?
Or is it the dreams with which I have grown?
It took me some time to realize
that my muse is nothing but my ‘drive’.
That drive which fights my thoughts
and is making me write even now.
That drive which pierces my mind
and is leading me to search its inner core.
That drive which inspires my heart
to reach to that final goal.
That drive which never lets me shift my focus.
That drive which, one day, will lead me to write a ‘MAGNUM OPUS’.

Beautiful poem. All the best to your writing dreams.
That us a very profound poem. We often hear of a poet’s muse. But ultimately it is our inner drive that helps us move relentlessly towards our goals. #MyFriendAlexa #JaiSReads
Lovely poem Charu. One can easily connect with it. Never let anything stop you from achieving your dreams and let the driving force be in action always.
A beautiful Poem! #Viddhreads #MyfriendAlexa
As long as the fire still burns
and the fingers keep twitching
the restlessness
that makes your world turn
prevails
keep writing, keep believing
the only thing that matters is
your drive
forget about the ‘magnum opus’
it will arrive.
Loved the poem, so took the liberty to reply in kind.
A thought provoking piece of poetry! Struggling through a writer’s block can sometimes be really tough. But it never lasts for long.
Somehow the mind draws inspiration, and sometimes it comes from the places you least expect to find it. Life is a fickle muse. We got to learn how to pin it down.
Cheers to you, me and our love for writing! ?
“It took me some time to realize
that my muse is nothing but my ‘drive’.”- Beautiful words. So true. Not all of us are blessed to have Polyhymnia or Erato in our lives. We need to create our own muses.
Loved it. All the best for writing your magnum opus.
I didn’t know you write poetry too. That is beautiful Charu. My story is a bit different though. For me, my first book was my magnum opus. I put my heart and soul into it. And after that there was a void. I could not think of anything more to write after that and I felt tired of writing. I felt “worded out”! So for me, my writer’s block came after the magnum opus. Thankfully I am back in my groove thanks to My Friend Alexa.
What a heartfelt poem, Charu! May your Magnum Opus be round the corner. Happy writing! ?

Muse as drive – an interesting derivative. I think I’d describe my muse as someone who blesses me with an idea and then vanishes ?
Lovely poem.keep up the good work.

I cannot write such beautiful poetry as you…but I was also planning on an “opus” but it is stuck somewhere ? good luck with yours and God speed for its completion!
Thank for I hardly faced writer’s block. I keep on writing. If not a new piece then just edit my old piece. I feel this helps me in keeping the flow going.
Btw, loves your poetry. Please write more.

That’s such a beautiful poem, and I can completely relate to it. Most of my readers say that my muse is my better half and well, I think they are right. ?

A very inspiring poem.I have never thought about writing a magnum-opus before though. It’s way to intimidating. But now reading this its food for thought.
It is indeed relatable for every writer. On some days I sit with eagerness to write something amazing. But my mind has other plans!! Anyway, I know I will get my magnum opus someday!
I am sure that one day you will have your magnum opus but until then keep trying and loved reading this wonderful poem.
Hahaha… so true, charu. Happens with me a lot. Ideas mostly come to me either while feeding my second Brin, getting ready to sleep, or while in the shower. And then puff, gone once you’re done with your chores. Kudos to you for maintaining your blog with twins. Here I cant handle it with two kids. #MyFriendAlexa #LiveItYoungReads
Such a lovely poem and you still think you face writer’s block ?
Just keep writing.
I’m yet to find my muse. There are times when inspiration flows like a river and then I’m blank for days or even months. Quite erratic.
