5 Basic Life Lessons Re-Learnt Via Social Media

Important Life Lessons Re-Learnt Via Social Media

As a blogger who actively uses social media, I learnt a lot of new skills and  explored my capabilities via social media. I attempted things I have never done before. And in the process I re-learnt some basic lessons of life that probably were taught to me as a child but now hold all the more significance in this digital era.

Sharing here the basic lessons of life that  social media made me re-learn-

1. YOU DON’T REALLY HAVE TO CHANGE YOURSELF TO FIT IN A REALM

I am an introvert by nature, yet I am pretty active on social media & openly share about my life & the way I raise my kids. I initially thought blogging wouldn’t be my cup of tea & it would require me to change myself. But guess that isn’t the case! I realised you don’t really have to change in order to excel in a role. If your work is honest and genuine, you shall be accepted anyway.

2. SIMPLICITY MAY NOT WIN, HONESTY SURELY DOES

My grid/pics or write-ups may not be that fancy or elaborate but they surely are straight from the heart. They may not look perfect but if they connect with my readers they are worth all the effort.

3. SUCCESS CAN’T BE MEASURED THROUGH NUMBERS

This is one of the most important life lessons re-learnt via social media. 50k is the new 10k for bloggers, right? But is that enough to be successful? No of followers/likes/engagement may fetch us deals, collaborations but a simple heart warming message by even one of those followers fetches real contentment & what we call as ‘true success’.

4. NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD

What we see is not what it is! I have made a lot of friends here. But I have also given up on a lot of people whom I thought were friends. This space can be deceptive! As a blogger myself, I can say social media can never be an enough representation of who we are! The best we can do is to be true to ourselves and practice what we preach.

5. THERE IS A DARK SIDE TO EVERYTHING

As Atwood says ‘every aspect of human technology has a dark side, including the bow and the arrow’. Digital world has its own problems – plagiarism, bullying, criticism, etc. There is no escape but there is certainly a way to deal with these. And once you learn how to do that, you learn to continue and thrive not just on social media but also in life.

Could you relate to any of these lessons? Social Media has been my space to learn and re-learn. What about you? What life-lesson did you learn from social media? Do share in the comments below.

very right said. There is a dark side to everything and there can be many stories behind all the smiles on social media.

  3. Metamorphosis

Wow.. Just loved it.. I agree with you and I feel the same. It felt as if you are speaking my mind. Specially preach what you practice and you cannot be judged by numbers. I share what I feel like and something that add value in people’s life.

  4. Pratibha

Honestly I used to be very flustered when it came to following and numbers etc, but after a point of time I realized I was reaching out to the people who were genuinely interested in what I was posting. So I stopped fretting!

  5. Pr@Gun

I feel so old writing this but I really do remember a time over a decade ago when things were much more simple in the Indian blogosphere where people genuinely came because they loved to read what you wrote. It was kinder, there was no rat race and definitely nothing like a numbers game.

    Ah well… Que Sera Sera.

  8. Ritu

These are all so true. Trust social media to teach us basic life lessons… social media style.

Agree with you , honesty wins .
Though I am not in that 50K league , much less than that but happy that my followers really follow me 🙂
I get good engagement on my posts and stories 🙂

  10. Modern Gypsy

Those are some very pertinent lessons. Social media is so much more than just a numbers game. The love you receive from your audience beats any other metric, in my book!

  11. Harjeet Kaur

Lessons from a true blue blogger 🙂 I agree with all..especially all that glitters is not gold. One has to be true to himself/herself and practice what we preach.Learning it more as an influencer- I back out from delas I don’t beleive in or would use.

Valid lessons. Actually life is darker than people imagine. Gods seem to brighten it up with their entertaining rituals.

  14. Varsh

I can relate to every one of them. Social media is about learning what we can and leaving out what doesn’t suit our purpose.

  15. Ruchie

I really agree Charu with these lessons !!

  16. PRB

Agree with all of the points, especially the first one. I’m an introvert too, but I’m quite comfortable on social media since you don’t always have to respond.
